House Work

House Work follows my daily life as a homemaker, moving across household chores — cleaning, cooking, laundry, amongst others. The video becomes an index of an artist’s labours outside of artistic practice, pointing towards hours of the day that often go unaccounted for when it comes to what society considers labour.
Shot by my two children, husband, and house help, the video records not only the moments when I am occupied with routine tasks, but also brings in through overheard conversations each of these people who play such an essential role in each day. In this way, the framing of each shot, along with the audio — particularly sounds from the kitchen — become a way to bring into the work characters and happenings that may be left out of the visual frame.
