Artist Statement

I am a homemaker and artist based in New York. I was born and brought up in Bombay and lived in Bangalore, where I received my Bachelor's degree in Printmaking from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in 2003.

In carving an artistic space within my personal familial journey, I was drawn to exploring the complexities of womanhood within the domestic sphere. The everyday role of being a homemaker, a wife, and mother of two provided the context from which my work emerged. I initially worked at a small-scale and engaged heavily with repetitive, recurring patterns. This early method of working paved the way for an engagement that expanded in many different directions. In my practice, I work with drawing, printmaking, installation, video, and quilting. Currently, I am exploring ideas of relocation, from the conceptual space of home.
